Galaxy 8-Channel Communication Watches

When these two units arrived for review at Eye Spy, we were suspicious of the many claims made by the manufacturer. After several hours of fieldwork and testing, all our fears proved unfounded. They are terrific and, besides their good looks, are sturdy and astonishingly easy to use. Idiot-proof is a word that comes to mind.

 

Worn on the wrist, they are not heavy and can be used in a variety of ways. With two units per case, one-to-one communication is provided. However, there are 8-channels for you to select, making it possible to talk to
several people at the switch of a button. In respect of surveillance operations, they are ideal. With an effective communicative distance of 2.5 kilometres (we managed to make clear contact from a distance of 3 miles - line of sight applied), staying in touch is easy.

 

Sending and receiving communications is simple. By pressing a call button situated just below the liquid crystal display screen, any user on your channel will receive the call. A small pinhole microphone is situated
on the lower left near the screen.

 

We found that a distance of about four inches (speaking normally) is its optimum range, though this is dependent on a variety of factors (surrounding noise etc.) The clarity of message is excellent and the Galaxy has full volume control. This helps provide clarity when talking into the microphone. Its computer also notes the time of
communication, whether you are sending a message or receiving one.

 

At the top of the unit a small antenna is tucked away. By simply flicking the antenna into an upward position, the message is much clearer and the signal easier to pick up. Four sturdy rubber control buttons situated
on the sides of the unit are easy to reach, use, and very strong. The Galaxy also has some neat functions, including VOX dispatch. By pressing a side button, and switching over to the VOX function, an icon appears
on the screen. You can then talk without pressing the talk-call key.

    


Another excellent function is ANR - automatic noise restrain. This helps cut off faint signals and noise arising from terrain or distance. The battery is situated in the back of the unit and is easily recharged. Indeed, the set comes with two battery charges and two sets of earphones. The earphones are ideal and fit into the side of the unit, thus incoming messages are not heard by those around. The lead is long enough to run
inside your sleeve and a neat clip keeps it in place. VOX can also be used in conjunction with the earphones, thus in a people environment, your actions would appear normal.

The creators of Galaxy have also installed an automatic energy saving function which saves even more battery life. The life of the lithium iconic battery is about 15 hours, however, if the unit fails to receive any
signal in five seconds, it automatically switches to its energy-saving mode. It will continue to receive signals as usual. A full recharge is recommended - this can take around 12 hours.

With a continuous 12-hour AM-PM, back-lit screen display function, auto squelch, a channel scanning device key, and adjustable band, the Galaxy is very, very good. It is simple to use and the screen displays are big
and readable.

For those who are ultra-creative, we believe it is possible to change the built-in frequencies, though it is not recommended. The unit can be cleaned with a soft cloth, do not use thinner or any detergent or allow any continuous water to breach its surface. The set comes with easy-to-follow instructions and general advice. It is ready to use in seconds and besides making an excellent covert surveillance tool, the unit would be of use in other environments, business, walking, shopping, and staying in touch with friends and youngsters.
